ALINGAN

This poem ALINGAN (Embrace) is published today 21st March 2010 in The Surjyprabha daily.

The poem Ebmrace categorizes embracing at different stages of life. In each embracing there is an exchange of warmth. It takes some classical embraces of Krushna--Sudama and Rama-Sugriba. Old true friends Krushna the king steps down from throne and embraces poor childhood friend Sudama and offers a bounty. Here Krushna does not have a pride of a giver and Sudama does not feel of belittling. But the Rama-Sugriba embrace has a condition of mutual benefits. They make a embrace to help each other for fighting against their enemies together. There is also a parasitic embrace that knows only receiving and a relation with that becomes costly.

Still, a person needs embracing something i.e. a concept, near-and-dears. Probably a human feels more lonely than all other creatures. And always hankers of continuity though it knows one day everything comes to an end. Possibly, at alingan embrace of grand child, a grand-parent sees continuity and so, the embrace!

<>Prof. Hrushikesha's> poem deals with a topic which is something to ponder upon in the context of today's complicated life throughout the world. Analogy that this well-known Professor and Poet has drawn has a sublime meaning through the examples of Sri Krishna-Sudama as well as Sri Ramachandra-Sugrib. i really enjoyed reading this nice piece of his creation.

Dear Professor Mohanty

The Poem 'Alingan' brings out the spirit of humane passion suiting the situation very well.

I can only wish you expand the theme to cover inanimate 'Alingans' like Alingan with Poverty and Pathos

This is exactly what is happening to me now and to other human-folks!

Friendly Greetings

Good morning Sir,
I had gone through the poem "Alingian", it has based on a deep
philosophical thought. A paper can be written from theep philosophical
thought for any standard journal. Hope in future I will see a good artical
on Alingian in a reputed journal.

Your poem is a good one with a lovely theme. Congratulation.
Only one thing I was thinking that since you have given good references of mythological characters, probably an indication to Radha -Krishna could have been given. Without that also it is a very good one.

Dear Sir

Read the translation for alingan (embrace). Translation only gives the subject and its meaning of the poem. I wish I knew oriya. The poem has got its own impact. The words, rythms, flow... all that comes in a poem cannot be seen in the translation. And to have a peotic translation, which is of course difficult, too cannot have same impact as the original one. IN SPITE OF ALL THESE THINGS, I can understand a poet's emotions to put the feelings in the poem.

Allingan (Embrace) comes in our indian culture only naturally and only at certain circumstances with emotions. For example, during sadness (in case of the death of near and dear) one embraces the immediate relative of the dead, to give comfort,
and between father and dauthter OR mother and son, when the child achieves some distinction,
and after the marriage of daughter when she leaves for her in-laws, father hugs her followed by mother,
and between friends on some festive occasion or when one makes some achievement and shares this happy momemt with the other,
and between husband and wife (though privately) when they meet after a long time after being apart,
and on many other occasions.

Alingan or embrace is a practice in western and europian countries, whereas it is rarely practiced here in india, only it comes naturally as I mentioned above.

In overseas, it is a practice. Everybody hug each other in general when they meet, particularly between opposite sex. With us it is still not common, and even for a general hug in public we feel shy.

In the movie, 'MUNNABHAI MBBS', the theme of the movie was HUG, that is ALINGAN. The movie gives the message that, through ALINGAN one gives affection and love and the person embraced feels that YES there is someone WHO CARES.

Sir, I can guess from your translation in english, that, you too have given the message of affection, love, and care through your poem.

There are innumerable examples, but the few examples given above must be sufficient to understand the IMPACT of ALINGAN.
