Self dependent is a Godly factor. It's believed God has put all the required on earth before it sends a life on to the earth. But, we take control of sources and put rules to control over it. Our world stands on the premise that being is a selfish and running the world is an optimisation problem. The governance of a country and our home turn to optimise things. In this, a being instead of self dependent turns to self acquiring making a consumers' society. Government doles out, banks give loans to buy more, consume more, produce more and in this chain all are to compete for the profit. In this run, China has gone ahead to dump all its stuff that you need or may need. The stuff may not be of quality but cheap enough to attract consumers. This has turned Indians to a buying community resulting to a huge trade imbalance with India. China may thank WTO for giving it an opportunity for boosting its trade. That's different issue to talk of. But, in the context of 'AtmaNirbhar' call of the Hon'ble Prime Minister what we require is to be 'AtmaNishta' - a citizen has to be conscious enough not to give up self to this consumerism. Understand your Home Economics and be with your capacity - that will add to 'AtmaNirbhar' effort of our country ! This column takes up the issue ...

Atma Nirbhar started with a bang. Fully charged with emotion. People also responded whole heartedly and enthuasistically. China got bashing everywhere. But as you have rightly mentioned people forget those emotion while buying goods at the market place. You go to a puja shop. Starting with idols up to sindur every thing is Chinese. They have invaded market place to such an extent that people have no choice but to buy. All harek maal Ten rupees shops are existing because of China goods.
Atma nirbhar is more an economic concept for which we have to enhance our competitiveness. I wish this opportunity should be utilised to to enhance productivity of people. No doubt Govt. Scemes to some extent are making people dependant on aids or subsidy but it is high time to think seriously how to make our products more competitive.
Atma Nishta to Atma nirbhar the road to be travelled.
